Rolled out by the government of Madhya Pradesh in January 2023, under the leadership of then Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, the Mukhya Mantri Ladli Behna Yojana is a remarkable welfare scheme. As active today as it was back when initially implemented, the objective of the Yojana has been to provide financial assistance to women. It has strived to encourage financial independence among the women of Madhya Pradesh and inspire the entrepreneurial spirit in them. Women from low-income households are at the forefront in terms of priority.
What is the Mukhya Mantri Ladli Behna Yojana Scheme?
With low labour participation of women in urban areas and even lower labour participation in rural areas, the financial dependency of women has been a pressing concern. In order to promote financial self-reliance and aid them in supporting their dependent children, the Madhya Pradesh government came up with an impactful initiative: the Mukhya Mantri Ladli Behna Yojana.
Since the scheme was implemented, eligible women beneficiaries have been receiving a monthly amount of ₹1,250 each in their DBT-enabled accounts. From November 2025 on, they are set to receive an additional ₹250, taking the total instalment amount to ₹1,500 per month.
Who benefits from the Ladli Behna Yojana?
An initiative that keeps the advancement of women and their finances at the centre, the Mukhya Mantri Ladli Behna Yojana is transformative. It inspires women to become economically self-reliant while helping them contribute to household expenses. Some of the ways women benefit from this scheme include:
Financial Support
The monthly transfer of ₹1,500 lets women manage their household with more independence than when they have to depend on their husbands or other family members. They can use this money to purchase essentials and solidify their role. It gives them more say in domestic matters, something they had been deprived of previously.
Nourishment
Married, divorced, widowed women or women abandoned by husbands are able to take care of their personal needs as well as those of their children or families due to this Yojana. The monthly transfer helps them purchase everyday essentials required for nourishment.
Promotion of Literacy
The welfare scheme empowers women to utilise the monthly transfer for their educational needs. Eligible women can use it to buy books, pay tuition fees, and progress in their studies.
Social Upliftment
This Yojana benefits women by strengthening their social status. A monthly income gives them more decision-making power in household matters. They can also save it to start a small business if they see fit.
Key Features of Ladli Behna Yojana
Formulated by the government of Madhya Pradesh with the public policy goal of women's empowerment and financial agency, the Mukhya Mantri Ladli Behna Yojana plays a crucial role in the lives of women in Madhya Pradesh.
- The Yojana resolves to enhance a woman’s purchasing power by depositing the benefit money directly into the account of the beneficiary, without any middlemen. Having control over their own expenses empowers them to make independent decisions, elevating their role in the household.
- The benefit amount of ₹1,500 enables women from poor, middle-income, or weak backgrounds to live a dignified life. The scheme covers women who are married, divorced, widowed, or have been abandoned by their husbands or children, providing social security for them.
- The e-KYC verification steps in the scheme ensure that the right beneficiaries receive the deposit on the 10th of every month. Any duplicate or fake applications are filtered out to prevent misallocation of resources.
- The scheme is made accessible by allowing women to file their applications independently or with assistance from local authorities. A structured system helps them track their application status through the MP government’s portal. It ensures that women can raise their complaints or objections and get them resolved for maximum benefit.
