Muhurat Trading 2026

Muhurat Trading is a special one-hour trading session held on Diwali every year. It symbolises prosperity, good fortune and the start of a new financial cycle for many traders and investors. The session takes place in the evening and follows timings announced by the National Stock Exchange closer to the festival date.

In 2026, Diwali (Laxmi Pujan) falls on Sunday, 8 November 2026. The NSE will release the exact Muhurat Trading timings a few days before the festival, but the session generally includes:

Pre-Open Session

A short window that opens just before the Muhurat session to allow order entry and modifications.

Muhurat Trading Session

A dedicated one-hour trading window held in the evening. This session is usually celebrated by investors as a symbolic time to begin new positions and review long-term plans.

Post-Session

A brief closing session is conducted after trading ends to finalise prices.

Many exchange holidays fall under major public holidays in India, but the holiday list is decided by the exchanges independently.

3. Will online trading apps work on share market holidays?
You can access your app, check prices and place after-market orders, but no trades are executed on a share market holiday.

4. Do commodity markets follow the same stock market holidays?
Most holidays overlap, but evening sessions in the holiday market (commodities) may have special timings.
