KALIA Scholarship Key Takeaways
|
Thousands of students in India are unable to pursue higher education every year due to an abject lack of funds. They come from the bottom rung of farming families that struggle to make ends meet. Except that education is a right reserved for everyone. The Government of Odisha conceived the KALIA scholarship scheme in 2019 with the intention of implementing the said right for the children of farmers in the state.
What is the KALIA Scholarship scheme?
The KALIA (Krushak Assistance for Livelihood and Income) scheme was devised to back up the poor and marginalised sections of the agricultural sector financially. However, the burning question remained about the growth and development of their children. With the intention of promoting education, the government of Odisha subsequently introduced the KALIA scholarship scheme.
Framed by the Department of Agriculture and Farmers Empowerment under the State Government of Odisha, the revised scheme seeks to educate the children of KALIA beneficiaries. Children of poor cultivators and landless agricultural labourers can opt for this scheme to pursue higher education in technical courses.
Who Benefits from the KALIA scholarship?
The KALIA scholarship scheme aims to deliver benefits to students who do not come from privileged backgrounds. Cultivators, agricultural labourers, and tenant farmers belong to one of the weakest sections of Indian society. This educational scheme seeks to provide opportunities to the children of poor farming families. It aspires to ensure that students can thrive irrespective of their financial background.
Key Features & Benefits of the KALIA Scholarship
Education is a fundamental right. No child should be deprived of an opportunity to grow and socio-economically uplift themselves due to financial constraints. The KALIA scholarship aims to ensure the availability of such an opportunity for children from disadvantaged and marginalised communities. The key benefits they gain are as follows:
- Since the scholarship covers tuition and accommodation fees, candidates can chase their educational goals without financial worries.
- They gain access to quality education and are able to look forward to a bright future.
- Low-income families like those of landless labourers or tenant farmers do not feel burdened or remorseful about the education of their children.
- Educational improvement through the scholarship translates into economic upliftment when a student gains skills and goes on to secure better employment.
- As families are made better off through the educational and economic empowerment of their children, the state’s economic development sees a boost as well.
